Athlete of the Week

Faye Reicker from New Brunswick

April 6th, 2020
Faye reached 1000 KM in less than 3 months. See how she did it!

I am 65 and I love getting outside! I hope to keep my health and ability to stay active. Every little bit helps, so get moving Canada!

How did you hear about A Great Canadian Running Challenge?

I saw it mentioned on Facebook.

Did you walk, jog or run this challenge?

I did a combination of them. I also did a lot of cross country skiing this winter, and when spring weather improves, I plan on adding biking to my schedule.

If you are a runner, tell us when you began to run and what motivated you to start running.

I am the mother of 4 boys, and when they were young, I started running for my mental and physical health. I wanted to be the best mom that I could be! At the time, exercise just became a habit, and I have kept at it, every day, for over 35 years!

How often do you walk, jog or run?

I go at least once a day, but I usually set out to exercise 2 or even 3 times in a day!

How do you stay motivated and find the time to walk and run?

It is a priority in my life. I am also very stubborn! When I put my mind to something, I do it!

What advice would you give someone to stay focused on reaching 1000 KM in 2020?

Never give up! Mark exercise as a priority in your life!

Every step you take is taking you that much closer to your goal! It is also improving your mental state at the same time!

Great work Faye and thank you for sharing a part of your story with us! We wish you the best of luck in reaching your 2020 goals!

You can follow Faye’s progress on the Leaderboard (coming soon), and cheer her on as she reaches 5000 KM in 2020!
